Zinc, an essential micronutrient, plays a vital role in nutrient transport in plants. Deficiency leads to impaired nutrient translocation, resulting in deficiency symptoms, reduced photosynthesis, and consequently lower yield and quality. Zinc is a component of the amino acid tryptophan, a precursor in auxin synthesis, thus directly affecting plant stem elongation. Zinc solubility in soil is highly pH-dependent. The presence of calcium carbonate in alkaline soils forms zinc carbonate, making it unavailable to plants.
